We write practical guides about tidal marsh and oyster bed shore walks
Researching accessible coastal paths around Clarinbridge, Dunbulcaun Bay, and Galway's oyster village for retirees and leisure walkers.
How we started
Why we built this site
We started this site because we couldn't find honest, practical information about walking routes along Galway's coast. Most guides either gloss over important details or make walks sound easier than they are. That's not helpful when you're planning a day out and you need to know if a path's muddy, where the steep bits are, or whether there's anywhere to rest halfway through.
We're not travel writers trying to make everything sound amazing. We're people who actually walk these routes, check tidal times, visit the access points, and talk to other walkers about what works and what doesn't. Our site exists to give you the straightforward information that helps you decide which walks suit you and what to bring along.
Retirees and leisure walkers deserve guides that respect their time and their safety. No marketing hype. Just clear descriptions of what you'll encounter, how long it'll take, and what to expect in different seasons.
Our approach
What we check for every guide
We verify practical details on the ground, then describe them honestly.
Route conditions
We walk each route and document what the terrain's actually like—muddy sections, steep climbs, loose gravel, paved sections. Not the version we wish it was.
Tidal times and seasons
We check tide charts, note when paths flood or become inaccessible, and explain how seasonal changes affect each walk. Timing matters out here.
Accessibility details
Parking locations, toilet facilities, rest benches, gate types, surface firmness. We note what's actually there, not what we hope might be there.
Distance and duration
We time the walks at a realistic pace and measure actual distances. These aren't speed-walk numbers—they're real timings for people who like to stop and look around.
Hazards and challenges
Uneven footing, exposed edges, weather exposure, wildlife, or difficult gates. We tell you about the tricky bits so you can prepare properly.
Regular updates
We revisit routes, check for storm damage, note new facilities, and verify access changes. Information stays current because we maintain it regularly.
How we write
Our editorial principles
Honest over impressive
We describe walks as they actually are. If a path's steep and muddy in places, we say so. If it's genuinely lovely and easy, we say that too. No marketing language, no exaggeration.
Practical over pretty
You need to know where to park, what facilities exist, how long it'll really take. We prioritize the details that help you plan a good day out, not the poetic descriptions.
Specific over vague
Not "a moderate walk"—we tell you the gradient, surface type, and exact distance. Not "seasonal changes"—we explain which months and what specifically shifts. Details matter.
Current over archived
Storm damage, new gates, repaired paths—conditions change. We check regularly and update our guides so you're working from current information, not outdated advice.
